I had the pleasure of giving this snare a whirl when I played Slam Dunk festival a couple of months back and have been meaning to write a short review of it ever since.

All I can say is….ouch!!

Not only does it look incredible, but what an unbelievable sound!

I think a drum with a finish like this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and in all honesty, I wasn’t sure about it at first. But when it arrived it literally took my breath away!

The orange powder coated hardware is as bright as the sun and the ‘Deerhunter’ custom laminate finish leaves you with an air of interest and confusion as to what the design is actually about and leaves you staring at it in amazement. This snare is just a work of art.

Anyway, enough about the beauty of snare…how does this bad boy play?!

I didn’t get to use it at a rehearsal before the festival so I jumped in with the first hit during our line check…and boy did it pierce my ears. With every hit this 10-ply maple snare was singing.

Such a deep, crisp and rich sound, it was like all my snare dreams had come true in one hit!

I’ve played a lot of snares in my lifetime and nothings quite come close to this one.

If you want a snare that makes everyone who sees it drool, a snare that punches you in the gut with every hit then this is a snare for you.

I was sad to send it back, but stoked to be able to use it at Slam Dunk 2010.
